2. 黄金周

   huáng jīn zhōu

   Golden Week (the week-long holiday)

   很多人趁黄金周出去旅游。

   hěn duō rén chèn huáng jīn zhōu chū qù lǚ yóu

   Lots of people take advantage of Golden Week to go travelling.

3. 放假

   fàng jià

   to have a holiday; to be off (work or school)

   国庆放假，你有什么打算？

   guó qìng fàng jià nǐ yǒu shén me dǎ suàn

   What are your plans for the National Day holiday?

4. 人山人海

   rén shān rén hǎi

   huge crowds of people

   景点

   jǐng diǎn

   tourist attraction; sight

   国庆期间，有名的景点都是人山人海。

   guó qìng qī jiān yǒu míng de jǐng diǎn dōu shì rén shān rén hǎi

   Over the National Day holiday, the famous sights are packed with people.

5. 堵车

   dǔ chē

   traffic jam; to be stuck in traffic

   放假第一天，高速公路上堵车堵得很厉害。

   fàng jià dì yī tiān gāo sù gōng lù shang dǔ chē dǔ de hěn lì hai

   On the first day of the holiday, the traffic on the expressway was terrible.

6. 升旗

   shēng qí

   to raise the flag

   国庆节早上，很多人去天安门广场看升旗。

   guó qìng jié zǎo shang hěn duō rén qù tiān ān mén guǎng chǎng kàn shēng qí

   On the morning of National Day, lots of people go to Tiananmen Square to watch the flag-raising.

7. 调休

   tiáo xiū

   to swap working days (to make a longer holiday)

   因为调休，这个周六要上班。

   yīn wèi tiáo xiū zhè ge zhōu liù yào shàng bān

   Because of the swapped days off, we have to work this Saturday.

8. 提前

   tí qián

   in advance; ahead of time

   订票

   dìng piào

   to book tickets

   黄金周的票很难买，要提前订票。

   huáng jīn zhōu de piào hěn nán mǎi yào tí qián dìng piào

   Golden Week tickets are hard to get, so you need to book ahead.
